REBIRTH II, 2018 Wheel-thrown, Oxidation fired Stoneware 63 x 47 x 38 cm Photograph by artist ---- The sculptural form of Rebirth II suggests a visual as well as a physical sensuality. I explore the relationship between personal and universal narratives in the context of change but I place the concept of transformation separate from the singularity of a specific event. Through the universal spiritual content, expressing time without beginning or end, this work has a self-referential sense of its own existence. This abstract meaning is in contrast to the visible marks of the making. The work can be understood as a figurative representation of eternal renewal but it can also be read as a representation of self-determination and the freedom and responsibility of self-expression.
